Kim Schwab
Kim originally came to yoga through athletics while in graduate school as a way to stretch after workouts and unwind from academic stress. After earning her Masters in English, she began training with Theresa Murphy and Tias Little. She has now been teaching yoga for almost two decades and has her 500-hour certification through Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe, NM. She interned at MAD Magazine as an undergrad studying English and Classical Greek and weaves yoga philosophy into her classes through a combination of poetry and story, and emphasizes the importance of a healthy sense of humor (What, me worry?), curiosity, and alignment. She encourages students to find an appropriate level of challenge in their practice, keeping in mind everything is both sacred and no big deal. As a full-time lecturer at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Kim teaches a mindfulness class she developed called The Mindful Student, as well as composition and literature classes. She continues to turn to yoga as a complement to her active lifestyle, both physically and mentally, and enjoys sharing the benefits with her students – both at the university and at the yoga studio.
Kim’s classes are all levels unless otherwise noted and her style tends to include some flow, as well as a break down of select poses in every class; however, vinyasa leans far more toward flow and hatha leans far more towards single poses held longer. Her classes also typically include a combination of breath work, meditation, and aromatherapy.
Note about Friday 5-week Sessions: This class will have a different focus each session. We’ll meet for (typically) five weeks a time to study some aspect of the practice in-depth. Then take a week off before beginning the next session. Commitment to the full five weeks strongly encouraged; however, life happens, and I understand if it doesn’t work out that way.
